Personal and academic tutors at TUL Language Centre
As part of two projects: ‘Education for the needs of key industries at the Lodz University of Technology’ and ‘Education for the needs of the economy at the Lodz University of Technology’, covering a total of 12 first-cycle study programmes: Transport; Energy; Logistics; Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering; Business, Society and Technology; Mechanics and Machine Design; Electrical Engineering; Food and Nutrition Management; Digital Management; Architecture; Design; Papermaking and Printing, sessions with tutors will be conducted.
🔹Tutoring combines elements of coaching and mentoring. At the beginning, the tutor gets to know the student, recognises their predispositions and discovers their talents. The developed support materials will help to determine the student's direction of development. It is a form of personalised education based on an individual approach and cooperation.
The tutoring process will be supported by the modern Mentiway application, which will streamline the organisation of meetings, progress monitoring and the exchange of materials.
According to a 2023 report by mlodeglowy.pl on the mental health and self-esteem of young people, the biggest problem is a lack of motivation, as many as 54.2% of young people experience it. This is accompanied by a lack of belief in their own abilities, which leads to them skipping classes and even dropping out of university. That is why it is so important to introduce tutoring classes at the academic level in the first year of studies.
📌 The main objectives of the project are:
- Reducing the number of students dropping out of university
- Supporting students in adapting to university life and developing key competences for motivation, self-assessment and agency, and thus for academic development
- Supporting students in mastering basic and subject-specific knowledge
🔗 Planned tutoring paths:
- Personal tutoring – supports student adaptation, integration into the academic community and the development of interests and strengths
- Academic tutoring – develops the educational and professional potential of students
- Peer tutoring – enables students to share knowledge, experience and learning strategies
Each of these paths includes an average of 10 individual or small group meetings.
