SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS
WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS (SEN)
AT THE LANGUAGE CENTRE OF THE ŁÓDŹ UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
1. A student with a disability certificate reports to BON, where they obtain an opinion with recommendations for lecturers. The lecturer interprets these recommendations, taking into account the specific nature of the subject and their own experience in working with the student. In case of doubt, the lecturer consults the coordinator for students with SEN at CJ or directly with BON.
2. A certificate of developmental dyslexia obtained during primary or secondary education remains valid for language classes at CJ. The student presents the opinion to the lecturer and the coordinator for students with SEN. Students with developmental dyslexia (dysgraphia, dyslexia, dysorthography) are not entitled to individual classes. They may submit an application to the Director of CJ for an extension of time for a module test or exam. The teacher may also agree to an extension of time for coursework during the semester.
3. Students with dysgraphia may submit a request to the Director of CJ to take a module test or examination on a computer. This information is forwarded to the coordinator for students with SEN at CJ, who deals with organisational matters related to the conduct of the test. With the consent of the Director of CJ and the lecturer, students with dysgraphia may write their term papers on a computer during the semester.
4. The student presents the lecturer with an opinion on special educational needs affecting the adaptation of the module test or exam at the beginning of the semester (within the first 3 weeks). The lecturer forwards the information to the coordinator for students with SEN at CJ.
5. Students with a disability certificate may submit a request to BON for individual classes to be organised. Such requests are considered, taking into account the opinion of the lecturer if group classes have already been conducted. All forms of course completion in the case of individual classes are adapted to the special needs of the student.
6. Adjustments to the forms of completing the module test and examination for students with SEN vary depending on the student's difficulties and the lecturer's experience in working with them. These include, among others:
- For people with hearing impairments, the audio material is replaced with text,
- For people with visual impairments, the text is replaced with audio material,
- the possibility of taking the test on a computer for people with motor difficulties,
- extension of time by up to 40%,
- change the specific tasks with the consent of the Director of CJ, and in accordance with the opinion of the lecturer conducting the classes.
